Thanksgiving

Tasting warm, round flavors,

swimming in laughter

and gentle touches,

looking together at

small moments

past and present,

glasses in hand–

we create another holiday–

one more

brightly colored

bead on the strand.

Later, our fingers will count it again,

in prayer, memory, thanks, questioning,

in all the modes of life.
